Mathematical problem:
We sell solar panels on a website. For convenience of our clients, we want they can calculate on our website how many solar panels and how many spare parts they need.
First client decides himself how many solar panels he wants, depending on the space available on the roof. The client can click the solar panels on the website in a field of 10 rows and 10 columns. So the number of solar panels is simple.
Some parts are simply a multiple of the solar panels. Those are also simple to calculate.
For the construction of one solar panel, there is for example a right support and a left support. So one solar panel needs 2 supports. In case of 2 panels, one extra support is needed, because both use the middle support. So 2 solar panels need 3 supports. 5 solar panels in one row need 6 supports, etc.
If there are 2 rows, the panels in the second row need an extention support. So a 2 rows of 5 panels need 6 first supports and 6 extention supports. 5 rows of 5 panels need 6 first supports and 24 extention supports. To protect against the wind, each row also needs a wind protection on the right side and one on the left side.
Now comes an extra complications:
Sometimes a configuration has a different number of columns in each row. And sometimes a panel in the middle of a row is missing, for example because there is a chimney or window on the roof. If you have a configuration with one panel missing on one of the corners, the number of extention supports go down by 1. If that panel is missing somwehere in the middle. the same number of supports is needed, because the remaining supports are still needed for the neighbour panels.
We request to make a mathematical calculation that can calculate the spare parts of each possible combination in a field of 10 x 10 solar panels. Our supplier has a website that makes this calculation. But it will not give us their formula. So we have to develop it ourselves.
To serious candidates we can give the login data.
We will need this calculation with spare parts for 3 types of roof configuration:
1. Slanted roof
2. Flat roof south orientation
3. Flat roof east-west orientation.
With the formula you will provide, we will ask a developer to develop a Wordpress website with this representation.
