Description
Experience Level: Expert
Industry: Business
Analysis tool: Excel
Description of analysis: It will likely require making the following assumptions:
1) How much cash will be deployed per month as guarantees, this should tally with the number of auctions that it is likely we would be able to guarantee against (i.e. it may be the case that there are only 6 auctions per year and those are the months that would reflect revenue).
2) The underwriting fee for the guarantees and the amount earned through this.
3) The amount that will sell below estimate and therefore the amount held in stock.
4) The period it will take to sell the stock and the presumed return on this.
5) A breakdown of the monthly fixed costs, salaries, insurance, storage etc.
A good financial model makes efficient use of the cash, reinvesting the cash while still leaving a cash cushion in case of anything unexpected. The most important thing is being able to justify your assumptions and that will rest on being able to show evidence of the appetite from the auction houses.
