Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: 1 day or less
General information for the business: We are a public sector organisation
Analysis tool: Access
Description of analysis: We are a public sector organisation seeking assistance in analysing our fleet usage dataset to identify occasions of concurrent demand and then train staff to perform this analysis for themselves.
The dataset consists of approximately 70,000 records, consisting of: vehicle id, job no., date/time ordered and date/time returned. More than one vehicle can go to a job depending on the nature of the job, so there can be multiple records for the same job but each will have a different vehicle id.
The analyst should be able to devise a simple and quick method to use the dataset to identify: a) all jobs where vehicles are in use at the same time using the date/time ordered and date/time returned fields and b) separate out those jobs which have a unique job no. and provide the results in a separate worksheet. This method should work for any given number of vehicles.
The next step is to equip staff to be able to perform this analysis for themselves in the future. The staff all have intermediate knowledge of Excel and Access (preferred options) and beginner knowledge of SQL. The method should be fully documented, in an easy to understand language, perhaps a short video, so it can be followed by staff with the above levels of knowledge and skills to carry out their own analysis.
Sample data can be provided.
