Description
Experience Level: Entry
I have an ostensibly simple tax situation.
In Aug 2018 I started working at a freelance writer. In the 2018-19 tax year (i.e, until April 5th 2019) I was paid around £11.5k by 2/3 clients, always via PayPal and always in USD.
I also have a full-time job for which I am paid around £27.5k and taxed via PAYE. I have some Student Loan from 2003-2006.
I thought it would be easy to fill out self-assessment but it is more complicated than I'd anticipated. The calculation reveals that I owe far more than I thought I would.
I have Government Gateway ID, Taxpayer URN, Self Assessment Activation Code, etc.
I need an accountant to figure out how much I owe and how much I can claim in expenses and help me file my self-assessment tax return.
This should be a super simple job. It's all there in PayPal. Paid in USD, converterd to USD, and withdrawn. I even have Quickbooks. I just need help understanding why I'm being charged so much.
If it goes well I'll be looking for a regular accountant to avoid this problem in future.
