Description
Experience Level: Entry
I have the following, rather unusual task. Let me introduce myself: I am an economist. I've got a job doing tax reform political research at present, but soon I will have another job doing risk for a major bank. I will be short of time. I also have lots of (possibly good) ideas that I would like to publish, but I find getting started and finishing writing quite difficult. So I would like to get some help, which might be considered 'academic personal assistance'.
I would pay for 1.5 hours per day. The first 45-60 minutes would be at 6am UK time (1300 Manila). This would involve me outlining an interesting idea or piece of work that I am working on that day. It would basically involve me dictating something. I prefer to dictate directly rather than to a recording, because at this time of the morning it's better to have a social interaction (although we could make a recording too). The remaining half an hour would be administration tasks - basically managing work flow of papers; it could involve some research. The goal is to get papers on interesting economic ideas published. We would initially work on google docs so that I can make changes too.
Appendix: Basic Workflow:
a) I define a topic (either the previous night or on the day)
b) We have a call (45 minutes) via Skype or Google etc. I will briefly explain what the idea is and I will dictate a first draft of the paper to you. I can also make a recording. It's important for me to dictate in person, because it gives structure to my day.
c) Finish any transcription (15-30 minutes after our call ends - I will send you a recording)
d) Minor editing to improve flow.
e) Researching the journals that we will submit to and the submission process.
f) Research to fill in the gaps of the work.
g) Possibly making the submissions.
h) Keeping a record of our project to ensure everything gets finished.
