EVENT MANAGER: MASS SWIM EVENT
The Outdoor Swimming Society runs a couple of mass swims a year, and is looking for an event manager to run the Dart 10k, a 10km swimming event down the river Dart launched in 2010.
The concept, location and water safety team have been worked out,and all the blueprints (from legal disclaimers to registration forms) exist from last year, so we now need an event manager to take on all other aspects of the job before the big day: Saturday 3rd September.
Your role will include organising everything about the event other than the water safety itself. This starts with marketing the event and handling swimmer queries, right through to sourcing and negotiating with suppliers (caterers, landowners, swim hats, parking, hot tub loaner) and handling volunteer teams, water safety team and the event timing on the day.
We are looking for an experienced professional, who can work on a small budget, with enthusiasm. We're a volunteer led society who has made great strides in promoting free open water swimming in this country (although this, because of water safety demands, is a paid event), so there is a lot of goodwill out there amongst all the people you will be dealing with to maintain.
Must be computer literate, as you will need to use our CMS.
The event starts in Totnes, Devon, and will require a site visit before the event and attendance over the weekend. Accomodation will be provided and petrol expenses only will be paid on top of the fixed fee (which incl VAT).
A full work breakdown is available to those shortlisted in order for them to assess the contract.
The event manager will be paid £2000; £2500 if their recruit more than 250 swimmers. We capped the event at 200 swimmers last year, and anticipate up to 400 swimmers this year.
