We are looking for someone who can visit 23 car dealerships based in either the UK, France, Germany or Italy and gather information in each showroom mainly on windows on 200 new car models. We need you to provide the following information:
1. Record the car model
2. Record the glass manufacturer. This information is shown on each window, typically on the bottom left-hand corner.
3. Measure the visible length and height of each window and sunroof, i.e. windscreen, front fixed side window, front door window, etc and sunroof (if applicable)
4. Measure the thickness of the windscreen, sunroof and side windows using a handheld ultrasonic thickness gauge. All windscreens (and some side windows) are laminated, i.e. two pieces of glass sandwiched between a piece of clear plastic (PVB) interlayer. By carefully placing the thickness gauge on the outside of the screen, the gauge will record the outer glass sheet. Likewise, by placing the gauge on the inside of the car will give you the depth of the inner glass sheet. We need the thickness for side windows and sunroofs, too. Although it will not be obvious whether the side windows and sunroof are laminated or tempered (i.e. a single sheet of glass), you will need to run the same outer and inner thickness and record both.
5. Measure the length and height of the interior display screens, e.g. sat-nav and other display screens in the centre stack above the gear stick.
6. Tap/feel the display screen(s) in order to determine whether it is plastic or glass or plastic.
7. Measure and record the appliqués in the car interior. There are several and we can give you some examples of what these are and what to look out for.
This information should be sent over on a spreadsheet. We shall provide the template for you to record the data. Some dealerships will be located alongside each other, e.g. BMW and Mini; Mercedes-Benz and Smart; VW and Seat, etc.
The car dealerships are as follows:
1. Alfa Romeo
2. Audi
3. BMW
4. Citroën
5. Chevrolet
6. Ford
7. Fiat
8. Honda
9. Hyundai
10. Kia
11. Land Rover
12. Mercedes-Benz
13. Smart
14. Mini
15. Nissan
16. Vauxhall
17. Peugeot
18. Renault
19. Seat
20. Skoda
21. Toyota
22. Volvo
23. Volkswagen
You will need a tailor’s tape measures (to avoid any danger of scratching the glass or paintwork) and hire an ultrasonic thickness gauge. We will give you the name and contact details of the hirer, the exact name of the gauge and reimburse you for the full hire costs.
Based on our experience of gathering this data, it should take you about ten minutes per car to record the above information. So, for 200 brand new cars – including travel from one dealership to the next – you would need to spare around 40 hours to complete this job.
We’ll pay promptly in two stages. The first GBP100 on submission of the complete data on 50 car models – as a quality check and to ensure that you are on the right track – with the remaining GBP300 on submission of the remaining 150 models plus, of course, the hire cost of the gauge. Please note that you are responsible for hiring the gauge.
We need the sample of 50 car model data by Wednesday 7th June and the rest by 14th June.
BEFORE YOU REPLY, please consider where the above car dealerships are in relation to your location and that you can get to all of them. And please don’t respond if you are in any doubt about collecting this data. We are looking for someone who is reliable, has an eye for detail, has a little tenacity and is personable (to approach the dealerships).
