John Foster is currently self-employed and working as a senior reporter on the TMT team of the Press Association in London. Prior to this he was managing editor of International Media Ventures in Dubai. He was also editor of CPIFinancial.net. John managed a team of five editorial staff, redesigned all of the magazines, launched Banker Arabic and CPIFinancial.net, and developed an online, real-time news service for CPI Financial. Before moving to the Middle East, John was with the Financial Times in London. He was features editor and acting editor of Investment Adviser, a weekly newspaper published by the FT Group on retail UK investment. John was pivotal in the magazine’s redesign and in the deployment of its returns-based style analysis investment methodology. John was exposed to all aspects of news, features, subbing and design and in the absence of the editor managed a team of 12 journalists in news, features and production. Prior to 2004, John worked in the City of London, first as an investment consultant for a pensions actuary, then in marketing and product development for an asset manager and most recently as an independent investment consultant to life offices and asset managers. John has worked on a number of high profile projects, including the conversion of a life company’s assets to stock-market linked actively-managed defined contribution funds; the development of a open architecture matrix for an asset manager; the creation of a suite of socially-responsible investment funds and the establishment of a friendly society embedded within a trade union in the People’s Republic of China.
