Brief overview of the project
We have a software program that has been developed in Visual Basic 6. It has been sold to a number of clients in the UK.
The software runs on individual PCs, with data stored in a central shared location. This data is stored in direct access files. The software generates reports for end users by extracting data into an Access 2 database, and using the DAO protocol to go into Crystal Reports 9.
Current Issue
Users with 64 bit Windows 7 PC’s are having problems running any reports, as Windows 7 64 bit doesn’t support the DAO protocol
Access 2 needed as we tried using Access 2000, but there were problems with reports running with only a percentage of total data being populated into reports
Developer has retired, but still able to support this project. The software is legacy software, with no intention to upgrade or add new functionality
Actions Taken to Date
We’ve been informed by Crystal that Crystal Reports XI is the newest version of their software that will still support integration with VB6. Also, it’s the first version of Crystal that supports ADO.
We have a trial of Crystal XI, and used it to convert all reports from DAO to ADO.
We’ve tried copiling, but have had various errors. Some DLL’s missing or not being registered correctly, and some ‘missing dependencies’.
Software did compile, but when run, we get a Runtime Error 525 (data access error).
We’re not sure that we’ve correctly integrated Crystal XI.
Needed
We need software correctly and successfully compiled, so that it functions correctly in Windows 64 bit (as well as earlier versions). Would like our development environment set up so we can develop any future changes ourselves, and it will still compile, register DLLs etc, successfully
