I cannot speak for others on PeoplePerHour or any other Freelance websites but I, myself am a Genuine 100% Full-time, English based Graphic Design And Web Design Freelancer who does this for a living. With me, you won't have your work passed to an in-house member of staff nor outsourced to a poor quality foreign developer from another country. I am the person you will be speaking to, the person who will be designing your website and the person who will be developing it so you know nothing is going to get lost in translation, nothing will get rushed or contain embarrassing grammar or spelling mistakes. And unlike other freelancers on here I won't demand an unwarranted 5-star review before I release your files.
In my many years doing Web and Graphic Design the most common question i get asked is how I came to be both a developer and graphic designer. Well the truth is that art and graphics were originally a hobby for me which then lead me into art school in my early teens, as an extension of that hobby with computers and web design, specifically HTML & PHP which i took afterwards as my main choice of work.
In my very early days of producing website's I was using prefab graphics and imagery sourced from the internet but always felt it made my website's look dull and generic. So I started working in adobe photoshop myself and then eventually enrolled in a graphic design course at college and from that day I barely have a working day without using Adobe Photoshop. To say I was hooked would be an understatement.
If you are new to freelance website's then you will probably be aware of or it may even be your sole reason that these types of website's are known for offering much lower prices in comparison to your high street or corporate graphic or web design based companies and you would be right with that assumption, however not all sellers work on the same basis. Unlike some of the other sellers on here, I work alone after working as a senior web designer at one of the UK's largest website development agencies for 5 years. I quickly learned they were over charging for their services and didn't really care about their customers or the quality of services and it became very evident with poor online reviews.
So in 2005 I left that company and started out as a Freelance Graphic & Web Designer and have never looked back, in that time I have worked for pretty much all the industries and have a lot of work behind me and more importantly a lot of experience.
Why pick a freelancer individual over a company ?
If you buy a website from a website agency or a "company" you may think you will have a group of multiple designers, developers and a project manager assigned to your project but in most cases you would be wrong. I have worked for a large agency and have many friends's in this industry and I can tell you, in most cases you are often just a forwarded brief passed from one person to another with no real personal service and are usually just another job in a pile of website's to be completed, often in the same instances. In most cases, the person you are speaking to has barely any understanding of websites or the technical ins and outs. Well that is where I differ, i care and focus my attention on each job I get, I don't juggle large amounts of projects at the same time, I like to get to know my clients and their business's, I pride myself in offering a service that is going to warrant a 5 star rating and a good review which I have managed to retain and believe me when i say that isn't easy.
