Copyediting is likely the most familiar form of editing. It concerns itself with the rules and the science of words. Does that comma belong there? Is that a semi-colon or a spec of dust? Do we capitalise Dragon in this world you've built? The average reader may not notice a split infinitive. But they may get confused if the loyal companion dog is now a changeable cat.
