I have also worked as a researcher, writer and producer for documentaries and series aired by international broadcasters and conduct market and competitor research for businesses.
If there is information to be harnessed, I can be counted on to conduct thorough research and communicate your story effectively, whether in print, online or on television.

    Area Covered: London
Work Experience Summary: April 2010 to Present Broadcast Journalist, HardTALK on BBC World
As a freelancer for this highly-regarded current affairs program, I stay ahead of the curve on world issues • identifying the topics that matter most on the world stage and quickly bringing myself up to speed on a wide range of topics in order to find guests for this one-hour studio interview program, presented by Stephen Sackur. Reporting to Executive Producer Carey Clark, I have booked guests including Russian Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Mikhail Margeolv and Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chada. I bash phones, conduct and research on a tight deadline and participate on shoots.

    July 2009-Mar. 2010 Associate Producer/Researcher, Outlaw Bikers
I developed, researched, sourced archive material, wrote treatments and field produced true crime stories for this one-hour documentary series about biker gangs for History Television. Working for E1 Entertainment, I gained access to legal authorities, experts, convicted criminals and families of victims in Canada and the U.S. I conducted interviews in both English and French. This series relied on deep legal and historical research, as well as interviews with police, criminals and victims to bring their chilling stories to the screen through a combination of interviews, archive footage and recreation.

January to June 2009 Associate Producer/Researcher, The Naked Archaologist and Christianity Decoded (working title)
I did historical research and spoke to experts in the fields of religion and archeology to develop treatments for a new one-hour documentary series (working title Christianity Decoded) for Emmy-award winning production company, Associated Producers. The series takes commonly-accepted historical truths from the bible and exposes alternate theories via expert interviews and new archaeological finds. I also researched and set up shoots exploring life in biblical times in Turkey and Israel for the irreverent educational biblical archaeology series, The Naked Archaeologist. This popular half-hour hosted series airs on History Television and combines hands-on on-site interviews at archaeological sites and archive footage.

Aug. 2008 to Jan. 2009 Associate Producer, W-Five (CTV)
From the potential pitfalls of Wind Energy, to controversial stem cell treatments for MS, I researched and developed compelling, topical stories for Canada’s leading weekly news magazine show. I kept on top of the news to find stories and conducted interviews in English and French. I set up shoots with sensitive subjects and worked in the field. I also contributed to scripting and supported the producer and editor throughout the editing process.

Nov. 2007 to Aug.2008 Researcher and Translator, The Al-Qaeda Code and Empire of the Word
As researcher for “The Al Quaeda Code” (CBC, Radio-Canada, SBS Australia, TSR, WDR, Planete 2008), a one-hour documentary about how Muslim youth around the world are being recruited, I gained access to and set up shoots at the U.S. Military academy at West Point and secured the first-ever interview with a Canadian youth charged and held on terrorism charges. I was also lead researcher for “Empire of the Word” (TVOntario; TFO; Knowledge Network; SBS Australia, TG4 Ireland, 2009), a four-part series on the importance and evolution of reading to humanity. The series demanded thorough research in the areas of history, cognitive science, social justice, technology and the arts - from historical texts and academic papers, to interviews with experts and literary figures. I set up interviews and recreation shoots in Germany, Turkey, Italy, Greece, Egypt, France, England and the U.S with set up leading experts from such institutions as The British National Library, the Alexandrian Library and the Biblioteque National about history and how we are using technology to preserve and disseminate writing. We explored the future with Google and an Egyptian blogger in hiding. We tackled censorship with interviews with exiled Pakistani writer Taslima Nasreen and Barney Rosset, the renegade U.S. publisher who went to the U.S. Supreme Court to publish Tropic of Cancer and Lady Chatterly\'s Lover in the 1960s. In Toronto, I filmed with a 62 year-old woman as she learned to read and gained access to and filmed with a religious sect using biblical text as a basis for their strange take on faith. I also filmed with a novelist and his neurologist to explore how a stroke rendered him unable to read but still able to write, overnight. This ambitious series, produced by Nomad Films, won Best Documentary Series at Worldfest Houston International Film Festival. Both the Al-Qaeda Code and Empire of the Word were nominated for Banff World Television Awards.

August 2007-January 2008 Marketing Associate Simon and Schuster Canada
This role allowed me to work on creating innovative marketing plans for best-selling authors such as Stephen King, Annie Proulx and AJ Jacobs.

    Aug. 2006-July 2007 Senior Web Producer, FLARE.com
I worked with print editors, freelancers and internal contributors to generate multimedia content that reinforced FLARE’s position as the leading fashion publication in Canada. I regularly wrote for the site • writing a fashion and beauty blog and conducting weekly interviews with celebrities as well as producing web videos and doing all copy editing.

    Nov. 2004-Aug. 2006 Senior Web Producer, Chatelaine.com
I worked the web and print editorial teams to develop innovative and engaging web content for Canada\'s largest and most venerable women\'s magazine. I planned, assigned, edited and worked with staff and freelancers to source and write content and produce videos on health, food, beauty and current events affecting women. I developed ideas for the site, providing editorial input to sales and marketing initiatives and managing our content alliances with such organizations as Google, MSN and Yahoo.
I still write feature articles for Chatelaine magazine, most recently publishing a profile on Elizabeth Dallaire, wife of the Canadian general who lead the UN team during the Rwandan genocide, in the English and French editions.

Sept. 2003-Nov. 2004 Researcher/writer/field producer, The Sex Files
Initially hired as a researcher, I also worked as a field producer for seasons four and five of this popular Discovery Channel Series. “The Sex Files” is an hour-long show that takes an aspect of human sexuality • from fetishes to fertility • and explores the science behind it using a combination of expert interviews, real people and studio recreations. I casted all the “real-people” for the series as well as leading experts and set up shoots across Canada and the U.S. I wrote a one-hour script on polyamoury, for which I shot all interviews in Seattle and another on Vacation Sex, for which I set up shoots in Jamaica and the U.S.

June 2003 Development Researcher Science Freaks (working title)
In this development role, I trolled scientific publications, the news and the web for ideas for a quirky new series pitched to the Discovery Channel. I found and established contacts including a man who can make himself invisible, robot warriors and someone who exploits the science of pain for his radical performances and wrote episode treatments for the pitch document.

Dec. 2002-June 2003 Researcher, Amazing Medical Mysteries: Transsexuals
I found three transsexuals to profile for this TLC program, in addition to conducting scientific research and setting up interviews with experts. I developed relationships and set up shoots with a Baptist Minister who became a woman at 50, a Montreal artist and sex worker born with ambiguous genitalia and a young teacher from Atlanta who traveled to San Francisco to become a man. I also conducted French research and interviews where required and worked with the production company, CineNova, to develop ideas and write treatments for a new series exploring the true stories behind such literary legends as Sherlock Holmes, James Bond and Robinson Crusoe.

Dec. 2000- Dec. 2002 Associate Editor Profit Magazine
I worked with the editorial team at this magazine targeting entrepreneurs to generate ideas and participated in a yearlong redesign of the magazine. In addition to working with freelance writers producing short and feature-length articles, I regularly contributed as a feature writer. I managed the three largest editorial packages of the year, one of which was nominated for a National Magazine Award. I continue to write for the magazine on a freelance basis.
Nov. 2000-Nov. 2004 Columnist The Montreal Gazette
My column, on online pop culture, appeared every Saturday.

Covering for a reporter on medical leave, I generated ideas and wrote features on art, music, food, fashion and lifestyle issues.

Aug. 1998- May 2000 Staff writer/Editorial Assistant, The Toronto Star
In this 24-hour position for Canada’s largest newspaper, I wrote literally hundreds of articles while monitoring more than a dozen police, fire and ambulance scanners, reading the newswires, listening to the radio news and watching television news.
