I spcialise in online and distance tutoring but will visit students in their own homes by special arrangement. I am happy to tutor students from any part of the world over the WWW and will travel in around the Reading area for home visits. I am readily available weekdays but weekend or evening tutoring is by arrangement.

I am a very experienced and successful English teacher. I combine fun and hard work for results.

I have been teaching in schools for 14 years. During that time I have taught English Language, English Literature, Drama and Media studies. My subject knowledge is complete and current.

I am extremely passionate and dedicated to learning and education. I believe that successful progress comes from organised hard work but relies on a supportive and enthusiastic teacher who is able to inject the unusual and the fun to aid understanding and memory.

I have always developed professional but friendly relationships with my students and I am extremely proud of the progress they make and the results they achieve.

I am able to support students who are struggling with their literacy, to extend and enrich the experience of those who have a talent for English or to guide students to specific skills required to achieve their potential grades.

Crochet Freelancer: My crochet work happens in many different ways. Mostly, I work on commission, either designing or creating pieces to client specifications. I also write patterns and design and make one-of-a-kind originals for general sale. My clients range from individuals,to yarn and craft companies. My abilities are ecclectic and expert. With a hook, I can create anything with any yarn (so far!). I am confident to work in many more unusual crochet styles including delicate thread and lace work, tunisian, amigurami, and scumble (free-form). I am able to quickly and expertly make garments, accessories, homeware, art-work and toys. I can follow written patterns and diagrams; I can write and adapt written patterns and diagrams, also. I also knit and sew to complement, complete and embellish my crochet.

    Work Experience
    -----------------

Summary: Details of Experience, Skills and Personal Philosophy

I am a very knowledgeable and passionate English Teacher. During my career my hard work and enthusiasm have led to many opportunities to expand and enhance my experience and skills.

My first school asked me to stay after a very successful teaching practice. They valued my expertise in Language teaching, something which was rare in English teachers at the time. During these early years I took any possible opportunity including the responsibility of setting up the English Language A level and the Combined English Literature and Language A level.

At Trinity School I was employed specifically as teacher in charge of Language for the faculty. This involved, as before, writing and establishing the AS and A2 English Language courses. These have become well subscribed, fun and successful. As part of the responsibility I acted as a consultant to the faculty during the early stages of the implementation of the Literacy Strategy and was later asked to act in the same capacity for the group of lead teachers who were exploring methods for teaching grammar with electronic whiteboards. I became expert in the use of this technology.

I also took on the role of the faculty Literacy representative on the school working party, became a teacher in charge of the GCSE course for Literature and Language, mentored the English student teachers, researched and piloted the used of tablet laptops in the classroom and eventually, due to a very successful sixth form tutorship, was asked to become pastoral head for Year 13.

I spent time as Head of English at Langtree school – a very challenging position. I feel I made a huge difference to the school by restructuring an outdated and undertrained department, implementing schemes of work including efficient and useful assessment procedures and policies.

After the birth of my first child, I stepped down from my Head of English role and I returned to Trinity school in order to give time to my children, which has given me great joy. I have most recently taken a break from the class room and now work part-time as a 1:1 tutor in the Bulmershe School, Reading. I also work from home as a distance learning tutor, which has become more and more successful as my reputation has spread by word of mouth. I have found this a very satisfying role and I plan to extend my work in this field when my work at Bulmershe comes to an end in July.
