Description
Sources of information will be Greek online newspaper archives, and possibly Greek Government online archives. These are free to access.
There should be info re how families could contact their relatives in the military in Korea, postage costs, problems and restrictions on mail etc. Also there should be some references after 1951 to Greek prisoners of war in Korea, and channels for mail to and from them.
I would think that 2 or 3 hours initial research would provide good indications of the potential amount of material in these archives. Time would be extended by mutual agreement.

Hi Anthony,
Just out of curiosity, I made a preliminary search for any relevant articles or archives. I could find nothing in governmental archives (quick search) or through Google searches with relevant keywords in Greek. A keyword search on the Greek Army's website yields also nothing. I haven't searched online newspapers though.
If you have any specific sites which you think might have some information, I would be happy to place a proposal for this task.
Cordial regards,
DemetriosAnthony B.23 Apr 2017Hi Demetrios.
Thanks for getting in touch, and for your preparatory searches. Although you were not able to find any references to mail matters, I am certain that they exist - somewhere! I was restricted in my searches by simply relying on Google translate to provide relevant search terms in Greek. That doesn't mean that the translations had any relevance at all to the task!!
From my more successful attempts in other countries (21 different countries were involved on the UN side in the Korean War), newspapers are the best source. They provide basic info about communicating with the troops, print letters of complaint re mail service and costs, and occasionally you might find relevant photos.
Within Government/Military archives there are generally files within say 'Expeditionary Force Korea' folders which contain miscellaneous documents relating to the military mail services.
Other sources elsewhere that have proved helpful have been parliamentary reports, Post Office archives and magazines/societies for philatelists.
Sorry I can't be more precise, but that's why I posted the job!
I have many letters from Greek soldiers, Royal Hellenic Air Force personnel and military liaison officers (the last two were based in Japan). I would be happy to share all my English language info as well.
Do you accept the challenge????!!!!
Regards
AnthonyDemetrios L.23 Apr 2017I would be happy to accept the challenge, provided that I have at least one successful search related to this subject. I will try again maybe later today or tomorrow and see the results. If anything fruitful comes out, I will send a proposal.
Thanks for getting back to me on this.
Demetrios
