Hi,
We’re developing an app for scanning business cards and need some specific input from a Dutch native speaker.
We're looking to create a training set of 100 Dutch business cards for our systems. Whoever does this job needs to be a native Dutch speaker.
1) You'll need to find 100 business cards which are in Dutch. These need to be from 100 different companies (we don't want business cards which look the same and just have different text). Please make sure they’re in Dutch and not in English. They should also be normal horizontal cards, not verical ones.
2) Once you’ve got all 100 of them please download Covve Scan on your iPhone or Android (visit http://scanner.cards for download link) and scan all 100 of them. This MUST be done in one day and ideally in one session so that we can then locate them. Note that the free version of the app allows you to scan 10 cards. So, scan 10 cards, delete them, scan the next 10, delete them and so on.
3) Then complete the attached spreadsheet (TASK1.xls) with the data within the cards. The spreadsheet provides some guidance as to how to transcribe various pieces of data (e.g. the address needs to go in one line; if there are multiple phones, they should be separated by |). One overarching, very important point here is that the text needs to be transcribed EXACTLY as it appears on the card. E.g. if the job title ends with a full stop, we need the full stop transcribed. If the address has a comma at the end of each line, we need this to be included. Don’t add any extra words and don’t try to guess or interpret the data – just write exactly what is written on the card. Attached is also a sample of 3 cards we've already done (in English).
When you start this task, please send over a set of 5 cards (both photos of the cards and the spreadsheet) so that we can check them.
Do all cards need to be a person+company, or can either by fine? For example my first example is a hairdresser where the information is the name of the salon, not the name of a particular hairdresser?
Yes its OK to have cards without a person’s name. Just please make sure they’re the minority of the 100
If the name of the person, the company name or the address/email address is written in caps or italics, do I need to enter the formatting as well in the spreadsheed?
No, no need to enter formating in the spreadsheet (italics etc). However, please do make sure you transcribe the correct capitals/lowercase letters
Do you need extra information to be entered? For example many people put "Téléphone: " or "Mob.' before their number. Do you need this in the phone column or only the numbers?
Don’t add “mob” etc in the phone or email fields. Just add the number, email, address etc
If the company name is repeated before the address (see my Allianz example), does this need to be written in the address field?
If the company name is repeated in the address then please include it in the address (and the company field of course)
If a social link (Twitter/FB etc) is provided, but just as an account name and not a full address (in my example, "@Erinaceus"), would you like this to be added in the Social column or not?
For social links yes, please add those as well (just the text that’s on the card, don’t add extra stuff to show its facebook etc)
