Estimated project duration: More than 6 months
I am looking for a technical writer/knowledge base developer (long term (6-10 months), 3-4 hours a day)
This self-motivated person primarily will create helpful information content for the existing platform.
Extend the platform with useful technical documentation on the specific topics we will provide.
Because our dev team has no enough time to explain the system, we want this person to be able to learn the product independently
will understand the places where the parts of the system can be non-clear/confusing and will create explanation materials
(help infoboxes, infographics, manuals, scripts for screencasts)
Of course, there will be weekly fixed time meetings where a writer can ask developers all the accumulated questions.
We would like this person also to help fill up and proofread the knowledge base for our tech support
Technical Writer Job Responsibilities:
Writes about technical subjects for technical and non-technical audiences.
Creates scripts for video tutorials.
Tests and updates existing documentation.
Constantly updates in-house style guide.
Creates screenshot markups.
Writes, edits, and updates User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) copy.
Creates and builds out user assistance infrastructure, including how-to sections, FAQs, and Help sections.
Updates, edits, and proofreads written materials such as product manuals, user manuals, how-to guides, and FAQs.
Works closely with subject matter experts, engineers, developers, and product marketing team.
Collects user reviews to determine areas of documentation that need revision and updating.
Works with tech lead to writing articles for non-specialist readers.
Technical Writer Qualifications/Skills:
Ability to write user-friendly, engaging copy about highly technical subjects.
Ability to understand and accurately translate technical information for a general audience.
Facility with documentation publishing software, such as Sphinx (readthedocs.io), Confluence, GitHub Readme, Wikis.
Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
Ability to effectively use analytics to improve user-facing content and applicant programming interface (API).
Education, Experience & Licence Requirements:
Experience with product development, including past use of product development software.
Portfolio of technical writing samples for review.
Strong written communication skills.
2-3 years of technical writing experience.
Bachelor of Arts in English, writing, communications, curriculum development, or software/computer engineering.
Master of Arts in technical writing is a plus.
Scientific publishing experience is a plus.
