Key Responsibilities
The Head of Economic Development will contribute to and deliver on strategies that help to position Sunshine Coast Council to achieve its vision for the region and its diverse communities. The key responsibilities of the Head of Economic Development are as follows:
Leadership
• Model professional and ethical behaviour, and facilitate an environment that inspires individual and team commitment in the pursuit of results
• Establish and implement robust project management arrangements and monitor the effectiveness of these arrangements to facilitate the resourcing, management and delivery of key projects
• Maintain and enhance strong corporate governance and performance arrangements in the management and delivery of Council’s key economic development priorities and projects
Quality Relationships
• Develop, foster and nurture strong, professional relationships with key business, industry and government stakeholders in the region to enable a collaborative approach to the delivery of Council’s key economic development priorities and projects
• Work collaboratively and productively with other Branches and Groups within Council to facilitate the delivery of Council services, programs and priorities
Productive Partnerships
• Develop, implement and monitor economic development programs and services that facilitate the delivery of Council’s economic development objectives
• Maintain a keen awareness of political and social developments and emerging research that may impact or influence the implementation of Council’s economic development priorities and provide appropriate advice in this regard to the Group Executive Economic and Community Development, the Chief Executive Officer, and Council
Customer Service
• Develop and provide well-researched, targeted and robust advice to Council’s Executive Leadership Team and Councillors on key economic development issues and activities
• Participate in Council’s local disaster management and response arrangements to facilitate community economic recovery following natural disaster events
Performance Excellence
• Proactively monitor and manage Branch resources (human, financial, contractual and physical) to ensure value for money is obtained, priorities are delivered and performance targets are achieved – consistent with established Council policies and operating arrangements
• Ensure a high level of professionalism, integrity and transparency in the development of advice and the delivery of projects, programs and services by the Branch
Key Assignments
• Drive the implementation (within established timeframes and resource parameters) of Council actions in the:
Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Strategy and
Sunshine Coast Major Events Strategy.
• Manage the provision of advice and support services to the Sunshine Coast Events Board and other
key economic groups across the region
• Demonstrates a highly visible and strong commitment to health and safety. Leading a safety culture that recognises, rewards and celebrates safe behaviours and practices. Ensures policy, resources and mechanisms are in place to support and monitor performance and organisational compliance. Works in unison with other leaders to encourage and empower others to contribute to a healthy and safe workplace.
As you will see from CV, my last postion was a local councillor in the next local gov area Noosa. I understand how inportantant it is to get the economic devloment in a local gov running well. The community as a whole benefits and so does the local mayor and councillors. I know it's very much understanding the politcal nature of industry both in the council organisation its self and the wider community. I would like to draw on the fact, I em a life long local to the Sunshine Coast. I have had 2 small businesses in the area. I was elected as a councillor for Noosa council in 2016. Working tirelessly with the economic devlopment team. Not many other applcants if any are going to be able to bring this eperince to the table
