I am recent civil engineering graduate with over five years’ related experience in the UK (I studied part-time). I've now decided to jump ship and move to Australia in hope of better weather! After research, there appears to be a high demand for my profession out there. I figured there is no harm in trying to secure a position or interviews before I arrive in a few months.


I’d like my C.V professional checked and edited to ensure it flows well and represents me in the best possible way. I will also send you a job description of a position in Australia which is very similar to my current role here in the UK. I will be applying for this role and chasing them until they know who I am!

Furthermore, I would like my cover letter reviewed. I believe it is essential that I get this right as potential employers may see me as a risk since I’m non-native. I would really like to illustrate the following points:

• I have attained a Recognised Graduate visa (subclass 476); this is aimed at young recent graduates with an engineering degree from a recognised institution. This visa allows me to gain up to 18 months employment.

• If I secure a permanent job I can get the visa extended or apply for residency– I intend to do the latter ASAP.

• I have the necessary affairs in order including an Australian bank account – this will allow me relocate as soon as possible.

So that just about sums up my request. I expect the most challenging aspect will be amending my cover letter– unless you have an alternative method of getting noticed by a foreign employer?
