    Description

    Experience Level: Expert
    THE CLASSIC WESTERN RAILROAD ROUTES
Bookcraft is looking for up to 10-12 experienced writers to work on this important illustrated history project. The advance information sheet and sample pages give a clear outline of the project and the writing style we are looking for. This book is for the general intelligent reader, but must also have enough substance and interest to appeal to readers who already know a lot of railroad history.
    We need writers for:
-- The general introduction to the subject, which is the growth of the great Western railroad routes from the 1860s to the 'golden age' of 1910-20; later history will be covered briefly in a few paragraphs -- the emphasis is on this 50-year period. (6-7,000 words)
-- Introductions to each of the six main routes up to 1920 (about 2,500-3,000 words each)
-- Text for the 36 4-page 'feature sections' (like the one attached), c.6-700 words per section.
We need all text to be complete by 1 August 2009
Copyright remains with authors; the writing fee is 100UK pounds/1000 words, payable on delivery of manuscript
We follow the Chicago Style Manual for writing style.
We will supply a suggested reading list as source material for each piece of writing.
The qualities we are looking for in authors are:
-- proven ability to write engaging and authoritative text
-- a good overview of the economic and social history of the period
    -- US or Cananda -based
-- ideally a specific interest in railroad history
When bidding, can you please say which parts of this project and which railroad routes you are most interested in, as we shall be appointing a team of 10-12 writers in order to maintain schedule and quality?
If you have any questions please email me.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

** ONLY BIDDERS BASED IN THE USA AND CANADA WILL BE CONSIDERED **

    Best wishes
    John
