NEWS RELEASE
Noteworthy major milestones occur rarely in the lifespan on a volunteer organization. On Saturday, May 10th, members, families and friends of Brackett Composite Squadron 64 of California Wing, Civil Air Patrol will be gathering at the Glendora Masonic Lodge and celebrating 50 successful years since its founding at its 2014 Annual Awards Ceremony and Banquet. This event will provide a stage for highlighting some of the many accomplishments of the unit over the years and also for recognizing the achievements and performances of its current members.
Within that half century of service to our ‘community, state and nation’ lie records of performance that many other units could well emulate: More than 47 of its Cadets have gained appointments to the nation’s service academies; Numerous Air and Ground Search and Rescue ‘finds’ were made and four lives were saved among many thousands of hours of volunteered search time; Being named as California Wing’s and/or Los Angeles Group 1’s Composite Squadron of the Year numerous times and California’s Squadron of Merit in 2002; Dozens of our outstanding Cadet leaders have been selected to serve in various high-level state-wide leadership positions at encampments and other activities; Conducting an extremely active calendar, including more than 40 unit weekend activities every year; Achievement of numerous Spaatz, Eaker, Earhart, Mitchell and other Cadet Program awards.
The list could go on much further but the membership prefers to invite its friends and alumni to join with us in an evening of recognition of those good times and achievements. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for Cadets and youth and $10 for small children and are available through the unit at P.O. Box 668, La Verne, CA 91750-0668.
The Civil Air Patrol is the volunteer Auxiliary of the United States Air Force and provides services to the nation by conducting Search and Rescue, Disaster Relief, Homeland Security, Aerospace Education and extremely successful leadership training through its Cadet Program, for youth between the ages of 12 and 21.
