Ghost Writer -Construction Technical

CREATING E-BOOKS FROM WEB CONTENT
Simply Build Extensions (URL HomeBuildingExtensions) is about to create a series of e-books from existing content on its website.

We are considering, engaging a freelance technical ghost writer to assist in this task.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
This will require the 'ghost' writer engaged to have:-

1. a reasonable knowledge of the various types of timber frame construction.

2. familiarity with the whole process of undertaking a building extension project, from survey, design and planning, though engineering and building regulations, to frame erection and follow on tasks.

3. excellent written English

4. clear knowledge of how to present technical subjects in a simple, easily understandable way.

5. the ability to ‘personalise’ a technical subject

6. the skills needed to create a compelling, readable ‘story line’ to run throughout the series.

THE AIM
The aim is NOT to create a comprehensive construction textbook, but to convert existing content into a series of helpful guides for competent Self Builders and Contractors who may not be familiar with timber frame construction.

BIDDING REQJUIREMENTS
Bidders MUST:-
• confirm that they have VISITED and UNDERSTAND the website referred to
• confirm that they have the skills noted in 1 to 6 above
• provide at least 3 sample of previous works as examples of their capability and style.
• add their own suggestions for enhancing the outcome
• specify why they should be the preferred bidder.

THE TASK
The job (with anticipated time required) will be to:-

a) Download all the content from its web site pages, including any from external links, into Word or Open Office Writer. This to then be submitted to us to check for completeness (circa 2 days)

b) Organise this into logical chapter and paragraph sequences to create a series of inter-related e-books, each of around 30 to 40 pages each. (circa 1 day)

c) Scan check the rearranged content for technical accuracy and conformity. This to then be submitted to us to check for completeness (circa 0.5 day)

d) Suggest any additions considered necessary to hold each e-book together and to deliver a comprehensive series from the raw website material. (circa 0.5 day)

e) Include as many photographs, illustrations, images, charts, etc. as possible to facilitate the easy and rapid comprehension of e-readers (circa 0.5 days)

f) Using Google’s Keyword tools, suggest appropriate short keyword rich titles for each element of each e-book, chapter, section and paragraph.(circa 0.5 days)

g) After the company’s editorial approval, to carry out any necessary corrections, re-writes and additions. (circa 1 day)

h) Deliver completed copy ready for conversion to both e-books and PDF’s (included in above)

TIME COMMITMENT & MILESTONES
Total anticipated time commitment 6 days in total, spread over a slightly longer period.
Milestones may be considered at (c) and (f) above, but are considered unnecessary for this short contract..

THE FUTURE
Subject to the successful outcome of this engagement, further similar and related work may be available.

REWARDS
The basic and success / bonus fees indicated are purely to satisfy PPH job listing requirements. A fixed price total sum for the whole job is required.

Since this is a remote task, it may help to have Skype.
It may also be more suited to someone in the UK
