A panther will raise the hairs on your neck if you hear it growl in the wild. Minutes later without ever seeing him as he continues to stalk you his growl will get louder and closer until you either take flight or freeze in fear. His instinct is to warn all prey in the vicinity so that the weak and vulnerable ones stay behind. When the panther catches up with his prey its the ones who are easy pickings that stayed behind. The strong and able took flight and are long gone.
