We are about to start providing our patients with monthly prep-prepared food hampers from a leading provider of such products. They offer 2 levels of eating plan, 1200 calories per day and 1500 calories per day. However, as they do not supply dairy products or fresh fruit and veg the actual amount of food supplied is 900 calories a day or 1200.
We will be checking the basal metabolic rate of each patient then adjusting their standard eating plan accordingly. We therefore need a set of guidelines for our doctors on how to upgrade a patient’s eating plan to address:
- Dairy content eg milk on cereal, yoghurts, cheese
- Fresh fruit and vegetables
- Additional snacks eg protein shakes, bars
These should be in 100 calorie increments to fit with a wide range of BMRs. The guide needs to be as easy to follow as possible as we work with a wide variety of doctors who have differing levels of nutrition awareness. It should probably be capable of being given to the patient so that they can manage the detail themselves.
The deliverable is a tabular document showing what to add for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks if you need to add 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 or 600 calories a day to the standard food hamper.
