To critically analyse and evaluate the impact of advancements in science, engineering and technology in the development of the Built Environment.
Prepare a report that discusses the modern approach to building design, selection, specification of materials and components and the construction of buildings, including off-site manufacture\production and the implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM).
Your report is to be well presented and supported by copious drawings, sketches, line diagrams, photographs etc. and should include:-
• An examination of traditional methods of design, component manufacture and assembly of buildings.
• A critical appraisal of the advent of science and technology in the design, manufacture and assembly of modern buildings.
• An analysis and evaluation of case studies to determine the impact of science and technology on the selection and specification of materials and components used in modern buildings.
• An examination of the impact of technology and industrialisation in the pre-fabrication of “cassette construction”, “flat packs” and “pods”, legislation, standards and quality control.
• An evaluation of the future outcome of advances in the industrialisation in design, construction and management processes of buildings, including implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM).
