Wordpress or Joomla Developer to build Members Directory site

First of all, because I have been through this process before and have been inundated with time wasting applications from people who apply without reading the brief, there is a trick to applying for this job. If you don't read this description carefully, you'll miss the vital clue and your application will be ignored. Sorry to have to take this step, but you wouldn't believe how many people just blast out a boiler plate response and I need to filter out people who can't read instructions properly.

We are looking for a web developer to help us re-build our website. We are a small association of actors in London, England and we are looking to replace our website with a more flexible, and feature rich version. We would like to use WordPress or Joomla because they are open source, low-cost, have good plugins, are flexible and easy to update.

The main purpose of the website is to act as a gallery and directory of members. At the moment there are around 150 members, but that number is growing so the site needs to be able to grow with it.

The most important aspect of the site is to display a gallery of members with links to each member's profile page (name, photo, contact details, relevant links). It is also very important that there is an effective way to search and filter at the front of the site.

It is essential that the person applying for this job have previous experience not only with WordPress or Joomla, but also with building websites that function as member directories. We need someone who can handle a website that runs off a database.

We've already gone down this road with a designer/developer who thought they could build what we needed in WordPress. They came up with all the designs, which we really like and would like to use, but they couldn't make Wordpress handle the directory / search aspects properly.

To be clear, we're not looking for a designer to start from scratch. We have templates (and all the relevant artwork) to make the site look largely how we want, we just need someone to build a CMS back end to go with it.

The other function of this site is to provide logged in members with access to a members only area where we can show blogs that showcase events, handle member activity (maybe a member's forum) and partner promotions as well as handle membership renewals (yearly payment with paypal). Here comes the trick to applying for this job, when you apply, please make sure you start your text with the word: I understand. Our budget is fair although it is fairly fixed, our timeframe is quite short and our needs are specific. This job will not take the right candidate very long to complete and we are looking to get going right away and have the site up in the next few weeks.
