Wordpress Login Integration Disqus

Gooday Web Developers and brainy people alike,

I’m currently working on a Wordpress project which is directly related to the PC Gaming Industry. We’ve been customising themes, installing plugins, changing a fair amount of things within Wordpress quite successfully, but now that we’re getting onto the more technical “stuff” and reaching out a little further to see the power behind Wordpress, in respects to plugins, our knowledge is very limited.

Now instead of sending over your copied and pasted “script” telling us that you have 6000+ years in web development and you’re the “super duper” developer, I’d prefer if you’d break it down into numbers or bullet points on how you would fix the issue. This then gives me more of an opportunity to pick and provide much needed feedback for your future prospects.
So what is actually the problem here?

Well the project name is D22 Zone and we currently have two web servers for it. One is a testing server, and the other one is the actual live server. Depending on your experience and if you wanted to “trial and error” we have the testing server there for your needs so if it does go horribly wrong, at least it won’t affect the live website.

Currently our problem lies within a plugin, Disqus. Integrating the two is a must, otherwise users who have registered using the ordinary Wordpress login will have to create a separate account to post comments on articles. I personally think the best way of tackling this, is to add the functionality for people to login using their Wordpress Login when going through Disqus. Currently people can login into Disqus to comment using the following applications.

- Disqus Account
- Google Account
- Twitter Account
- Facebook Account
- Yahoo Account
- OpenID
- (What we’re trying to add is “Wordpress Account” where users can login using the account that has already been registered on the site, thus keeping their emails, avatar, notes etc)

It is vital that we can somehow integrate Disqus to use Wordpress Account Logins because our users would prefer not to register another account to just post on the website + they would be using two different accounts to Post on Articles and post on forums. But we do want to keep the functionality of being able to post using Google, Twitter, Facebook Yahoo etc because this was the primary reason why we installed the plugin. There may be a better way to integrate the whole system to one another, but at the moment both Forums and Buddypress uses the standard Wordpress Account and I’d think it would be way too much hassle to change both Forum and Buddypress than Disqus itself.

So what are we looking for?

To integrate Wordpress Account logins into Disqus which stops the idea that users have to use a separate account from the original Wordpress account that they’ve been using to post a comment on articles. We want to keep the ability to login and post with Google Accounts, Twitters etc because this may have a positive effect on driving discussion. The main problem lies within the users who have already registered a Wordpress account on the site, because they have to post using a different account as Disqus hasn’t integrated the option.
We advise that you use the testing server first and then port over the correct configuration to the live site. You will be responsible for integrating, correctly configuring, and making sure that any errors which are present or have come apparent due to recent changes are sorted immediately before the job is marked complete.

Only after a final assessment of the site and making sure that it works, will we release monies.
