Wordpress Counter widget or code

I want a Wordpress widget or some code that I can insert into a text widget that will show how much rubbish has been recycled to date (from the beginning of the year or from a particular start point) on a waste management site.

The calculation would be based on what we forcast to be a whole years worth (in tonnes).

It needs to update live, similar to the one in the header of www.hifx.co.nz (this one shows $ transactions)

We would need to be able to state the following parameters:
Start amount
Tonnes per year recycled

I want to use css to format, but don't want anything fancy (again, similar to Hifx example)
