User Interface & Architecture Development for Home Automation Platform

And we're planning to release our own gateway/controller and web/iPhone/Android GUI for managing home devices remotely.

The hardware will be Raspberry PI based with Z-Wave daughterboard: http://razberry.zwave.me/

The API actually defines the 10% of end user tasks that make up 90% of use cases (turn on lights at X time etc.), so you will need to make those tasks look and work pretty.

The mobile apps will probably just be based on PhoneGap.

For this job we need:

Excellent GUI design, and you should know about and prove experience in development of home automation applications. We want something different & fresh compared to all the other solutions out there. Code is Java.

The end solution will be built into our existing online shop, so customers can both manage their home network and buy new devices from the same interface (this is something unique).

We want you to build the app and then support manage it over time, so we need a stable "team" with proven track record in developing, supporting and maintaining such platforms. You would effectively be an outsourced Vesternet department managing this and also working with our existing web developers for the seamless integration described above.

This also includes remote customer support / diagnostics etc. and providing those tools to our support team.

There is another part to the solution which includes setup and management of the server infrastructure needed to provision and support the end user devices with some exciting new features. Will discuss more with short-listed bidders.

We're a fast moving company in a growing market and want to make this the best platform available. We also have some unique positions such as the existing shop infrastructure to make the whole solution something special. Hence we need a special team to make this the best.
