Description
Experience Level: Expert
WebOneUK Ltd are a well established UK company who own and manage a number of web sites for themselves and some clients. Up to now most of the work has been undertaken in-house but as we have become busier, we need external assistance.
You will require the necessary html, php, MySQL skills, preferably use or understand the Dreamweaver / Interakt construction system and have some graphic skills. You should be pro-active and suggest improvements to the specification if you think they would be beneficial.
Most critical is the ability to pay attention to detail.
The first job we're offering is a re-design of one of our client sites, blpbooks.co.uk. It is written in php and utilises a MySQL database to store some content which is managed by a bespoke CMS operated by ourselves, which would not require updating.
The site was designed with Dreamweaver 2004 utilising the Interakt extension suite and we need to maintain compatibility in case we alter in-house.
The site's primary purpose is the sale of the owner's books which is done via a PayPal shopping cart.
The site is currently based on a width of 760px and we wish to expand this to 950px by the addition of an extra column to the right, taking the opportunity to improve the visual appeal by updating the CSS at the same time, probably changing the fonts and increasing the font size slightly
The additional column will be primarily used to carry adverts for the owner's books.
We are not looking for a complete re-design, more an incremental improvement but still recognisable as the same site.
Although the design could be done using divs, we'd prefer to stick with a simple table layout which allows more control of some elements. We also use the 'google table trick' so that the content in the centre appears first in the code (below the header), followed by the left navigation column and then the right.
The existing colour scheme would remain.
The work can be undertaken on your server and then updated to our server or we can create a sub-domain for you on our server.
The work would be in 3 phases.
1) Produce a template and agree with us.
2) Transfer content from the existing site across to the template
3) Following our checking and approving upload to the live server.
Please feel free to clarify any points you are unsure of. We have found that communication by telephone or voip (skype) to be more efficient and faster than via email / IM for resolving queries.
