Server / Apache Optimization

We have a dedicated server which hosts our websites twistedmusic.com and others which is running extremely slow..im told by the support people at MT (our hosting company) that this is because it needs to be optimized (a service they do not offer) with apache..etc.
they pointed me to some docs on their support site but even though they say it is fairly straight forward to sort out, its something we know nothing about (neither does our web designer) wondering if you anyone can help. could also lead to more web work for twisted records.
