Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
My current server admin is unreliable, randomly disappears, does not respond for ages and this is a big cause for concern with our server being mission critical obviously. We're hosting a new and growing web app, several WP sites, and various databases and websites for our clients.
The server is with FDC in Chicago, 8 cores, 16 gb ram - totally unmanaged hence the need for an experienced and knowledgeable server admin.
The setup is nginx, php-fpm, percona, postfix and I can't remember what else! We might a better mail server soon as I have some websites hosted on HostGator shared hosting with email accounts but it would be good to centralise all of this. We'll have to do this without any disruption to mail services, or changes to the passwords etc.
We want to setup a failsafe backup system on S3 as well as look at any other quick fixes to speed up, optimise and secure the server. Sphinx is being considered for db queries. Possibly some security tokens and varnish for the public parts of the website(s).
We also want to setup performance alerts and someone that can generally respond to requests for domain management, dns, etc (godaddy) and installation of new blogs, plugin fixes, caching etc.
Any experience with SVN, AWS, payment integration (secure trading, paypal, etc) would be a bonus. Ideally you will have your own ideas and what software to use and how best to manage the server, minimise overhead, etc. Not just responding to our requests!
I want to concentrate on running my business without worrying about the server so reliability and communication is paramount. And my developer needs to focus on the product he is creating without worrying over the webserver.
Since you will have access to all of our data proof of ID and a signed contract will be required. The nature of the work is ad-hoc of course and once its running smoothly there should not be too much to do.
