Questions on the google form will be as follows
Website Categorisation v2.0
Section 1 - Test overview
This section should be left as-is and it’s only for reference purposes. The website under Landing Page URL will be your source.
Consider the pre-populated fields as reference to where to research and the destination region
Is there a problem with the test?
Select “Yes” if you’re unable to access the analysed website. You might be asked to do the assessment on another website, if you were unable to do the assessment
Section 2 - Initial assessment
What best describes the company operating the analysed website?
A retailer, brand or marketplace selling products (tangible or digital) via the internet.
Any company that accepts payment for products (even if digital), services (cleaners, plumbers) through the internet. If you need to contact via email or phone to do business, select the option below
A retailer or brand who sells exclusively offline, and uses the website as a catalogue
Companies that sell things, but use the website as a means to capture clients, show their products and services, but will rely on other methods actually complete the transaction. Examples are car companies, some tradespeople and smaller retailers.
A classifieds website with no ecommerce
Some classifieds websites accept payment, such as eBay, MercadoLibre and Etsy, but other work in a similar fashion to newspaper classifieds, where you need to contact the seller directly and arrange payment
A travel agent or hotel booking service
If the company sells plane/ferry/coach tickets, accommodation in hotels/B&Bs/hostels
Section 3 - Final redirected URL
Final redirected URL
The URL provided at the beginning of the test might not be used anymore, and often will redirect to another URL. Regardless, copy and paste the final one, even if it’s the same.
Section 4 - Brand
Does the website sell own-brand products?
If the company’s name is “Banana Store” can you find “Banana Store” branded products? Or is just a store that sells other products?
Are the own-brand products sold on other websites?
Are the own-brand products only sold be the retailer itself? That is particularly common for Groceries - you’ll rarely find a Walmart branded rice on another supermarket.
An example of a brand sold on other websites is Nike: they sell both through their website and other retailers.
Try searching for branded products on Google Shopping and see if you can find it in other shops than the one you’re assessing.
Section 5 - Other characteristics
Is Is the website a marketplace host?
A marketplace host is a website that allows other sellers (people or other companies) to sell through it.
A telltale sign that a website is a Marketplace can be found on the product page. If it says “Sold and fulfilled by…” or something similar, it usually means that they are a marketplace host.
Sometimes it is very obvious, like eBay and MercadoLibre, where the seller ratings are displayed very clearly, and sometimes it’s just a detail.
You can usually also search for “Company name marketplace” on Google
What types of products are sold?
Physical goods: Things that are tangible, delivered by post or click and collect. Example: Groceries, Electronics (Phones, TVs), Tools, Plants, Tools, Soil, CDs, DVDs
Digital goods: Things that are delivered digitally, via email or other digital methods. Example: Downloadable software licenses, MP3 music, Streaming service subscriptions (Spotify and Netflix)
Professional services: Cleaners, plumbers, consultancy
Streaming services
Do the platform offer a streaming service? Examples are Spotify, Netflix, Amazon Prime
Do the retailer seem to target a particular demographic group? *
Are the products sold targeted to a certain age (Babies, Kids, Elderly), sex or professionals (builders, woodworkers, doctors)
Select the demographics that apply on the following section
Section 6 - Sectors
Select all sectors that apply to the retailer
Some companies might have only one, other might have them all. Only select if they are relevant - if the company only sells one product from that sector, ignore it
Section 7 - Other characteristics
Contact email address: If there are multiple, include the "Customer service" or the most general one
Contact form URL: Some retailers use a contact form instead of email addresses for contacting, and sometimes they have both.
Contact phone number: Include country code
"About us" page URL: This page usually includes the company's history, trajectory and mission. Alternative names are "Our company", "About the company" and similar terms.
Section 8 - Other characteristics
Logo: Upload the logo used by the retailer on the website, using the upload functionality in the form
Check that the image file is actually working, if it’s not try Googling it
If nothing else works, screenshot the section of the website where the logo is
