Configure Mercury/32 to work with Gmail account

I have a server with XAMPP installed on a Windows 2008 server.

I have a gmail google Apps account that I wish to use to relay messages from localhost.

Everything is properly configured as far as I can tell, but I keep getting the error "Error FF servicing queue job" when I try to send mail from postmaster@localhost using Mercury.

I would like all emails sent from my applications on the webserver using the phpmail function to be relayed via my gmail account so that they look like they are coming from that account.

I am not interested in overly technical solutions that require the creation of a new PHP script or extensive custom configuration of my PHP.ini etc.

Ideally I would like to accomplish this through Mercury/32. I have googled the issue and realise there are extensive posts on this issue and a solution exists, but I don't have the time to go through the different ones.

It would be great if you have fixed a similar problem before.
