Basic Changes To Wordpress Theme

This should be a really basic job for someone to fix in about 5 minutes.

1. I want to remove the scroller. I did try and upload the image on the smart slider less height, but it creates a huge black background below it. I want the website to be filled with the one image without the slider.
2. When making the website responsive (showing the web site in a phone size, it doesn't increase the size of the smart slider image to stretch across the whole of the phone it creates a big black gap below the image. See attached. I want the image stretched across the whole phone. The image should be responsive.
