Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
As we are not very IT literate especially in this subject we are looking for someone to help with purchasing the relevant SSL certificate from our hosting company which is WebFusion, apply the HTTPS SSL certificate to the store and check all pages are working with the SSL certificate and amend where needed. Just for your information our store is ran on Sellerdeck 2016 DESKTOP SOFTWARE, it is not cloud based.
Read further for job description of what we need to do, we have tried to be as specific as possible:
1. Buy an SSL certificate from our hosting company if you don’t have one, it is usually a yearly cost. Our website can switch from http to https with a padlock in the URL bar of browsers. we will need it before July 2018. Note we will also need other changes.
2. You should add a .htaccess file on your hosting server to redirect visitors that land on old http links to the https version and it also advises search engines to update their search engine listings and avoids duplicate links. There may be a change in search engine rankings but that is decided by Google which is a third party and has control over it’s own algorithms.
3. You should check website pages show as secure in browsers. If browsers show an “Insecure Content” warning it means you have http sources instead of https in your website layouts such as old third party Javascripts, social media or sharing buttons, forms etc which need updating. If you added tools that display page shares or visits, a URL change may change page counts but it depends on the tool and their policy, you should check their documentation. A website designer can assist with updates at an extra cost.
4. You should update any places you entered website links to use the https version instead, that could include Actinic Desktop or SellerDeck software fields, Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmaster Tools), Google Analytics, adverts, links on social media pages and profiles, third party plugins and tools, corporate material, mailing lists and newsletters, shop email templates, email signatures etc. You should also ask websites that link to yours to update their links where possible.
