Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Design based on: basouk.com ("basouk")
Cron updates: Every 30/60 minutes: Affiliate feeds updated to delete out of stock products and to add any new products
Scripts: Import products into the correct categories using positive and negative keywords.
Job requires attention to detail, design, functionality and the project must run on time set by the milestones.
Detailed Job Spec:
Design:
- Each page should be in "exactly" the same design and layout as basouk.
- Attention to detail with spacing, fonts, colours is essential.
- The homepage will require a sliding banner (not flash).
- We will provide the images, e.g. logo and sliding banner imagery.
SEO:
- Each page should have page titles and the url re-writes.
Functionality:
- "Exactly" the same functionality as basouk.
- Top navigation should have a drop down navigation for subcategories, however, when you hover over the subcategories in the drop down list the subcategory should be underlined.
- The category page must display 5 products per row using the same size product images.
- The product detailed page must be the same as the basouk's product detailed page together with details of the merchant name the item can be found (see the text to the right of the product price).
- When the customer clicks on the "More Info / Buy" button, there must be a page showing the user that they will be re-directed to the ""merchant name" website" with an egg timer. This page must not slow down the loading of the merchant website.
- The footer will require subscription to the newsletter, links to static pages and marketing media
- etc as per the basouk website.
Speed and load times:
- We need the load times for each pages to be kept to an absolute minimum. This is helped by the merchant products being held on the merchant server so testing is essential and measures put into place to reduce any userability load time issues.
Implementing onto current server with new url and liaising with server hosts:
We currently work with the following Affiliate Networks:
Affiliate Window, Trade Doubler and Linkshare who use different methods to import the feeds, e.g. Affiliate Window use a url to import the feeds whereas Linkshare will use another method.
As with many of the merchants, some of the feeds will have broad categories, e.g. We require an automated website which means that when the feeds are imported that scripts are created to ensure that the content is imported over into the correct categories using Positive and Negative keywords. It is important to have scripts to import the products over using keywords as the feeds supplied by the merchants are very broad and need to be more granualar. For example, Affiliate Window will provide a feed in the category of soft furnishings but we will need it to be more granular, e.g. cushions will need to be placed in the cushions category automatically. There must be an option to update the negative and keywords regularly to account for new products that may make their way into the wrong category. Some products may need to be imported into two or more categories rather than into just one category. We must be informed as to how to use the scripts thoroughly and how to remove any products from the category pages individually should they not belong to that category.
Cron jobs must be set up for each affiliate network to ensure that the feeds are regularly updated. We would like to aim for the feeds to be staggered and updated every 30 to 60 minutes. As the updated feeds will be removing automatically any out of stock items and adding any new items, it is essential that the scripts are set up so that they will be able to add the new products automatically. We aim to have over 300,000 products, therefore, it is essential that any updates and content can cope on the current server we have. We will require you to look into this at the start of the project.
Please contact me should you require any further information.
