RFID seating planner

I am looking to get some Arduino programming done for a project of mine. The concept of the idea is giving people RFID cards which would be scanned at a conference which would point them to the table they are seated at. As a reference you can look at this project https://www.instructables.com/id/RFID-Seating-Plan/. I believe majority of the works has been completed by the referenced project but would require some modifications to my design.

I would like to use WS2812 LED's which would allow for some more special effects.
