Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the website: Read a PAC file and return proxy HTTP address/name & port
Num. of web pages/modules: 1
Description of every page/module: PAC (Proxy auto-config) files are a vastly used proxy configuration method these days. Web browsers can use a PAC file to determine which proxy server to use or whether to go direct for a given URL. PAC files are written in JavaScript and can be programmed to return different proxy methods (e.g. "PROXY proxy1:port; DIRECT") depending upon URL, source IP address, protocol, time of the day etc. PAC files introduce a lot of possibilities. Look at the wikipedia link above to find out more about them.
Needless to say, PAC files are now a widely accepted method for proxy configuration management and companies all over are using them in corporate environment. Almost all popular web browsers support PAC files
Description of requirements/features: Need a JS/web page/app to read PAC file on a clients network.
Display the IP/address & port number of the HTTP server in the defined PAC file.
Code should need ideally no file name from the user as PAC is defined in network settings in Internet explorer
see http://www.proxypacfiles.com/proxypac/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=61&Itemid=102
Extra notes:
If browser based, I'll need a web page with the code that I can put on our site.
Thanks
