Description
Experience Level: Entry
Estimated project duration: Not sure
BUDGET NOTICE: The displayed budget is a placeholder, NOT the project price or spending cap. No work or purchases are authorised.
PERSONALLY FUNDED: No external funding; very limited budget. We seek a small specialised engineering company/team under a registered legal entity with relevant experience and equipment. Quote realistically, including components, tests and external services, without unclear extras.
OBJECTIVE
Develop an owner-originated concept into an integrated physical wearable for developing and testing early warning of approaching syncope (fainting). One provider is responsible for requirements review, electronics, software, experiments, troubleshooting, assembly, testing and delivery. Recording alone is not a substitute for implementing/testing the agreed warning logic. Human validation is a separate later stage.
REQUIRED FUNCTIONS
- At least one ECG channel, PPG and motion data for posture estimation.
- Raw ECG, PPG and motion data with verifiable synchronised timing.
- Local on-body alert independent of a nearby phone.
- Local recording/event storage and practical review/export; no full commercial app required.
- Documented agreed warning logic, inputs and limitations.
- Compact, presentable wearable without loose external wires in normal intended use.
Agree initial size, weight, operating time, attachment and storage limits before design-stage approval/final pricing. Address lying-down pressure, sweat, agreed temperatures, battery and skin-contact material safety, and shower resistance under defined tests/acceptance criteria. Swimming is excluded.
DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING
Start with limited fixed-price measurement qualification. Test the hypothesis and evaluate results before final miniaturisation/enclosure manufacture. Development boards are acceptable early, not as final delivery.
Identify failure causes or remaining unknowns; propose practical alternatives within resources. Test approved modifications against baseline and report improvements, deterioration and uncertainty. Substantive changes require advance approval.
Deliver all raw recordings, including failed/inconclusive attempts. A sound negative experiment can fulfil a research deliverable but does not prove device success.
NO HUMAN TESTING OR WEARING, including by the provider/team, is permitted. Clinical validation and commercial medical certification are excluded.
EVIDENCE AND DELIVERABLES
Demonstrate relevant physical wearable/biosignal-device experience and suitable equipment or documented partner-lab access. Provide available non-confidential evidence; distinguish actual access from pending purchases/arrangements. Disclose outsourcing; the contracting provider remains responsible for integration.
Deliver the physical prototype, editable designs, schematics, BOM, source code, build/programming/operating instructions, raw data, test/change records and dated signed reports identifying entity, personnel, equipment, settings, results, failures and limitations. Allow confidential review by client-selected specialists.
RIGHTS AND CONFIDENTIALITY
Transfer to the client rights in results developed specifically for this project: designs, software, data, project-specific know-how, improvements and inventions, with contributors correctly documented. Disclose and agree pre-existing IP, third-party rights and licences needed to use and further develop the device.
No patent filing or rights registration for the provider/third parties based on project results or client confidential information.
Non-public details only after signed NDA. No publication or portfolio use without written permission. No inventive ideas, free detailed designs or new experiments requested in applications.
PRICING AND PROCESS
Quote currency, each stage/total, labour, parts, external tests, taxes, platform fees, shipping/exclusions, first unit/additional-unit manufacturing cost, included revisions/retests, start date, stage durations, bench/wearable delivery dates, assumptions and dependencies.
Pre-specification estimates are preliminary with written assumptions; fix each stage's scope/price before starting. Payments follow agreed milestones, deliverables and acceptance criteria through the platform's authorised system. No extra work/purchases or later stages without written approval.
Confirm no applicable legal restrictions/sanctions prevent contracting, performance or payment. Selected candidates receive complete terms before final proposal/contract.
APPLICATION QUESTIONS
1. Closest physical device built, your role and non-confidential evidence?
2. Can you deliver end-to-end; what is outsourced?
3. Equipment actually available, access evidence and gaps?
4. Main issue to verify before commitment?
5. Total cost/time estimate, assumptions and exclusions?
6. Accept limited fixed-price qualification, later stages separately authorised?
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION ONLY. This requests preliminary proposals, not offer acceptance or paid-work authorisation.
