Description
Experience Level: Entry
About us
We're a small climate technology company building solar-powered IoT monitoring devices that run off-grid in the field. Our design uses off-the-shelf components, and we write the device software in-house. We're looking for an experienced engineer to review our design and advise us, not to build it from scratch.*
We're also coming to Shenzhen to source components and have contacts there, the ideal candidate would also be able to help in finding the right suppliers.
What you'll do
- Review our hardware design and advise on components, connections and protocols
- Advise on low-power and solar/battery design, and on outdoor enclosures and connectors
- Review parts of our device code where your experience helps
- Recommend reliable suppliers in Shenzhen, and potentially join us for a few days during our sourcing trip
- Advise on samples, minimum order quantities, quality checks and export
Must have
- 5+ years in embedded systems or IoT, with devices you've shipped that run in the field
- Embedded Linux on single-board computers
- Industrial sensor interfaces and protocols (e.g. RS485/Modbus), Bluetooth Low Energy, cellular modems
- Low-power and solar/battery design
- Based in China, ideally in or near Shenzhen, with working contacts in the Shenzhen electronics supply chain
- Good written and spoken English
Nice to have
- Microcontroller firmware (e.g. ESP32)
- Outdoor, off-grid or agricultural deployments
- Experience with IP-rated enclosures and waterproof connectors
