Angular Project - Click Behavior on SideNav

We have an angular project that needs cleanup. The sidebar navigation does not stay as expected when "User Clicks". Typically this might be much easier if it were just CSS/HTML. But in angular, we were not sure where to make this behavior work properly (Using bootstrap BTW).
Screen Shot 1 shows without any mouse action, Screen Shot 2 shows mouse hover behavior, but looks like mouse hover is over-riding mouse click and also click event needs to be added in typescript.
I can upload the project to be able to do an "npm install" and test it with "ng serve"
