Amend a batch of customer statuses on an online shop database

My client has an online store with a database of several thousand customers and fanclub members.

I need someone to create a change within the database to change a large number of fanclub members statuses from Active to Expired. This could be done manually using our bespoke system but would be quite time-consuming - I assume it would be much quicker and easier to do it at db level. I would supply a list of members and names on an Excel spreadsheet.
