Adaption of Arduino code for different "display"

Hi,
for a geocache i would like to use an arduino running the "2048" game. There's already a code available on github

but it uses a LCD display.
As i'd to use it outdoors a 8x8 WS2818 RGB Matrix would be better, as shown here

As this link to github is dead and the autor has "lost" the code, i'd need an adaption of the code mentioned first.

....and, as already said, as i'd like to donate the result for the geocaching community, it shouln't be to expensive ;-)
