Jquery - Add to Basket Code And AJAX search for Joomla 1.5 & Virtuemart 1.1 site

Part 1 - Add to basket functionality...
When you add a product to the basket or click buy the “Basket” is updated and a Modal is displayed with options.
This currently works via Mootools.

We would like similar functionality but using Jquery.

We are open to suggestions on how the code works and would be open to using 3rd party scripts to give the user a dynamic experience. The solution must bear in mind that the site is also geared towards Mobile users. The Solution must work on mobile browsers.

The current template is using Bootstrap 3 to give a responsive experience for users.


Part 2 - AJAX search

We also require a realtime search to be implemented on the site. e.g. when a user types “cof” then everything with coffee in the title or description should appear in a search drop down. This should also update as the user continues to type e.g. “coffee beans” would return all listings for coffee beans.

Categorisation within the results may also be required. (optional)

EG if a user searches for “Coffee” The results should be shown in their respective Categories

EG Coffee Beans, Ground Coffee, Coffee Pods
etc

The Ajax search must be heavily optimised to perform rapidly and have minimal impact on server resources.



The Platform for the current Live site and the New website is Joomla 1.5 AND Virtuemart 1.1
Both of which are now considered obsolete. However my client has invested a significant amount of time and money in the development of this version and would be too costly to migrate to an up to date solution.

The new front end however will leverage up to date techniques just as bootstrap / Jquery etc.

I am in the middle of converting the existing template over to Boostrap and therefore isn’t displaying correctly
