Add gift message feature to shopping cart on Magento store.

We have an e-commerce Magento website that has a onepage checkout with the gift message feature currently working. We are looking to get this same feature available in the shopping cart but with a submission button to store the message as a session which will then appear in the checkouts gift message area. Whether a new module needs to be made or you can work with the current gift message block would be your choice. Obviously I'm not sure if £50 is a good enough budget but feel free to work around that.
