Sys Admin: Linux/Apache/Tomcat/mySQL

We have an application (the Engine - basically a database with an API). We need someone to administer the server.

The Engine is a Java-based and runs on a Linux, Apache, Tomcat, mySQL stack hosted on a Linux VM. We are responsible from the operating system upwards. The Qualys service is currently used to provide system security monitoring. The firewall on the server uses a custom configuration, for which a config script is available. The system is stable and is generally left to get on with it - it is not under much load at the moment.

We need you to:
Undertake routine administration; generally keep the server secure - patching, etc.;
Automate backups;
Create a TEST server on a new VM - which is an opportunity to optimise the system configuration.

The role is hourly paid, and you are not going to be able to retire on the likely hours of work available. If hired, you would make an assessment of the system. We would agree a work programme. You would execute the work. We would agree a regular maintenance schedule, etc.

This is a remote role ONLY. We are in London, UK; the server is in the USA. We would prefer someone in our time zone. This is a production server and we want to see demonstrated experience and references for similar work that you have undertaken.
