Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Estimated project duration: 1 - 2 weeks
I am looking for a SQL developer to take over creation of a database and analysis tool that uses the GPS location of factories to assess competition between companies.
The goal is the project is for me to be able to perform analysis on 1) who competes with who, 2) the potential companies it would make sense to merge; 3) the companies that might get in trouble with competition authorities if they did merge (eg if they are the only two competitors in a region) and 4) other geospacial data such as weather (especially rainfall over time eg daily) and population density.
This is analysis that few others do at the moment. I intend to show it to those I complete research for in an easy to understand and professional way. So it’s to help with my day job.
The current state is I have a working relational db (MySQL) that performs the analysis slowly and I am having trouble working out the right snowflake schema / meta data to speed up the process. I would also like the functionality/analysis extended.
The schema and code are as robust and commented as I could make them so hopefully it should be easy for you to pick up.
I graduated with BSc in CompSci in 1999 but never worked in the industry so know a bit and can understand a lot but am very rusty and pretty slow.
I’m looking for an experienced developer to push things along more quickly. I am paying for this from my own pocket but I’m hoping it will come up with some good analysis so think it’s doable on my budget. Delivery time would preferably be within around 2-4 weeks (if not working fulltime) and we can discuss if a different timescale works.
I have spent 4yrs building the db for cement production plants and distribution outlets (think Travis Perkins or B&Q) in the specialised field of construction materials- I am a researcher in the field. It currently has ~11,000 entries and 30,000 “proximity links”.
Please let me know if this is something you are interested in and matches your skill set and we can speak more.
I have a detailed spec but will require a non-disclosure agreement to be signed before sending it over. Sorry for that but it would be pretty easy for someone to steal that 4yrs of work!
Thanks for looking.
All the best,
Ian
