MySQL PHP database search engine query writing

We have developed a website with an operational search of a music library catalogue. We need it to be more flexible - its operating on literal strings.

For example, if you search for:

Composer: \"beethoven\"
Title: \"ninth symphony\"
...you get 0 results

If you search for:

Composer: \"beethoven\"
Title: \"symphony 9\"
...you get 0 results


If you search for:

Composer: \"beethoven\"
Title: \"symphony no. 9\"
...you get 11 results

We would like you to quote on rewriting the MySQL queries and the PHP so it is more fuzzy.
