Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the business: website
Database management system (DBMS): Microsoft SQL Server
Description of requirements/functionality: I'm a SQL developer myself, this job shouldn't take more than half a day for someone with the skills.
I need a BCP script that searches a directory for files, imports them to a remote database and archives to a /archive folder.
The database connection is not trusted, requires user and password (please make sure to mask it from your solution)
The bcp import should use a format file
Sample files plus script for destination tables are attached.
There shouldn't be more than one file of each in the directory at any given time - two files in total.
Files are named
cars_2016-06-24.csv
dealers_2016-06-24.csv
No referential integrity is required, only that the data imports successfully.
The dates in file names will change so names can't be hard-coded.
If well argued, the import tables can be altered but it's unlikely as this import currently runs in SSIS.
You will supply your own database for development and testing, I'm only interested in the script.
The host system is Windows Server 2012 and the database is SQL Server 2016
In pseudocode:
foreach file in a directory
import using bcp
move to \archive folder
next
The script can either be a Windows .bat file or PowerSell.
Specific technologies required: BCP, Windows scripting
