Estimated project duration: 1 day or less
My team is currently hiring a date project manager but we'd like to have some draft information to speed things along for when s/he starts the position. However, no one on the team is a data professional so that's where you come in.
My team is looking to create a new database that provides data on the following for each U.S. state plus DC. For each field, here is link to a trusted data source that can provide the necessary information. ** I've included a document with all this information and the links since I cannot include them here.
Voter Registration Deadlines
When do states typically require a person to register to vote using a paper form prior to an election?
When do states typically require a person to register online to vote prior to an election?
Online Voter Registration
Is online voter registration an option?
Same Day Voter Registration
Is same-day registration an option?
When can a voter register in person?
Where can a voter register in person?
Absentee and Early Voting
Which states allow voters to vote by mail?
Under what conditions?
Which states allow voters to vote early?
All of this information will need to be stored in a database for our use. We've been asked to define two components:
a data specification that relates each of these pieces of information to the state. This specification can be described using a diagram or written outline, as you prefer. We'd like it to include a short description of each element and what possible values we'd expect to see commonly used.
a spreadsheet that our team could use to collect and organize this information before it’s imported into the system. If possible, Please fill in two sample states’ information to demonstrate how the specification informs the spreadsheet’s use.
Finally, given all this data, in your opinion, do you think it s possible to collect all of this information by February 11, 2020? Would it be possible to create a draft project timeline capable of showing when each data element across the 50 states and DC will be researched and input into the database? Instead of a complete project plan, we’d like to see an outline and answers to two questions:
1. What project phases would the plan need to include?
2. What questions, if any, would we need to ask other teams to schedule each phase and confirm whether or not they fit within that time frame?
This is meant as a high-level tentative assessment just so we can gauge how much time staff will need to spend on this project and should hopefully take less than 3 hours.
Thank you in advance!
